The TravelMate 6493 integrates a state-of-the-art Trusted Platform Module (TPM) security solution that reduces security risks and increases reliability by providing secure generation and management of personal cryptographic keys and data. Furthermore, the built-in Acer Bio-Protection fingerprint reader provides Pre-Boot Authentication to approve system or data access using biometric identification. To round out the security functions, the TravelMate 6493 includes a SmartCard reader and the PlatinumSecret™ software suite is available as an option.

Support for the Acer ezDock II/II+ suits existing and next-generation peripherals, ensuring maximum efficiency and flexibility. The TravelMate 6493 is a complete communication instrument giving users different connectivity options: Wireless networking via 802.11a/g/Draft-N, built-in Bluetooth® 2.0 module with Enhanced Data Rate for easy connection to your personal area network, wired Gigabit LAN and an integrated modem. For real-time face-to-face video conferencing, the Acer Crystal Eye webcam is mounted on top of the LCD panel. The integrated Acer MediaBay facilitates hot-swapping between modules like a 2nd hard disk drive, an optical drive or weight-saver for greater portability.
